In a move to streamline visa management for expatriates in Saudi Arabia, authorities have announced a convenient method for the cancellation of exit/re-entry visas.
The Saudi General Directorate of Passports has disclosed that employers can now initiate the cancellation process through the Absher platform, a government electronic system.
Online Cancellation Process via Absher
Expatriates’ exit/re-entry visas can be seamlessly cancelled by employers using the Absher platform. The process is efficiently linked to the employer’s account, ensuring a swift cancellation procedure. It’s important to note that the issuance fees for these visas are non-refundable, as emphasized by the Directorate.
Important Reminders:
- Passport validity needs to be at least 90 days for issuing an exit/re-entry visa and 60 days for a final exit visa.
- Converting an exit/re-entry visa into a final exit visa is only possible while within the Kingdom.

Digital Transformation Encouraged
As part of the ongoing digital transformation initiatives, the General Directorate of Passports encourages expatriates to utilize the various services available on the Absher platform.
These services encompass the issuance and renewal of the iqama (residency permit), as well as the issuance of exit/re-entry visas and final exit visas.
Enhanced Flexibility for Visa Holders
Recent updates in Saudi Arabia’s visa regulations offer increased flexibility for foreign residents. Individuals holding exit/re-entry visas are now permitted to return to Saudi Arabia until the last day of the visa’s validity period.
Furthermore, the Directorate announced that exit/re-entry visa holders can electronically extend their visas while outside the kingdom, provided they pay the relevant fees through the Absher platform or Muqeem portal.
Visa Requirements and Restrictions
Authorities highlight the necessity of a valid passport for at least 90 days for the issuance of exit/re-entry visas and 60 days for final exit visas.
It is crucial to note that conversion from an exit/re-entry visa to a final exit visa is not permissible if the beneficiary is currently outside the kingdom.
