What is the Amnesty Scheme?

The Kuwaiti interior ministry has launched a three-month amnesty for residency violators in Kuwait. Expatriates living unlawfully in the country can now rectify their status by either paying fines and obtaining new residency or leaving without facing fines. The amnesty scheme allows undocumented Indian residents in Kuwait to either:

  • Regularize their residency by paying fines and obtaining a new visa.
  • Leave the country without paying fines.

Effective Period: The amnesty scheme will run from March 17 to June 17, coinciding with Ramadan.

Fines and Rectification: Violators can regularize their status by settling fines of 2 KD (Kuwaiti Dinar) per day, capped at a maximum of 600 KD. Those unable to pay fines can depart without penalties but must adhere to new procedures if they wish to return.

Consequences of Non-Compliance: Failure to comply with the amnesty orders may result in deportation and legal penalties.

Appeal Process: Residents facing administrative hurdles or legal challenges have the option to appeal to the residency affairs department for assessment.
