As Govt. of India extends the ban on international flights till January 31, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on 31st Dec announced Phase 9 of its Vande Bharat Mission.
The Govt. of India on May 06, 2020, has started the ‘Vande Bharat Mission’ to repatriate Indians stranded all over the world due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
As per the schedule published on the MEA website, the VBM Phase 9 has started on 1st Jan and will continue till 31st Dec.
Indian national carrier Air India and its wholly-owned subsidiary Air India Express have also announced their schedule for the month of January 2021.
Under the Vande Bharat Mission Phase 9, India will operate over 1600 flights from 24 countries which includes Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, UAE, and the USA.
As per the Ministry of Civil Aviation, 14,481 repatriation flights were operated by the Air India Group under the Vande Bharat Mission till January 19, carrying over 19.48 lakh passengers. Of these, 7,239 were inbound flights carrying 11.7 lakh passengers and 7,242 were outbound flights with 7.78 lakh fliers.
