The U.S. Consulate General in Chennai has announced the cancellation of all in-person visa interviews scheduled for December 4-8 due to the impact of Cyclone Michaung.
The decision comes as part of safety measures to protect both applicants and consulate staff in light of the severe weather conditions.
Rescheduling Details for Canceled Appointments
Applicants affected by the cancellations are assured that they will receive an email with a new appointment date. Those who have not received the expected email are advised to check their spam folder for further communication.
- Student Visa Appointments: Canceled student visa interviews will be rescheduled to the week of December 11-15.
- Petition-Based Visa Appointments: Canceled petition-based visa interviews will be rescheduled to the week of December 18-22.
- Visitor Visa (B1/B2) Appointments: Canceled visitor visa appointments are slated to be rescheduled to January.
Impact on Visa Application Center (VAC) Services
Applicants who had their Visa Application Center (VAC) interview waiver appointments cancelled will also receive rescheduled VAC appointment times.
However, the Consulate General warns that interview waiver processing times throughout the Mission will experience delays due to the disruptions caused by Cyclone Michaung.
