The US Consulate in Chennai has cancelled all visa appointments for Monday, December 4, citing the impending cyclone’s potential impact.

The Consulate stated that due to Cyclone Michaung, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to northern coastal areas, including Chennai, on December 3 and 4, all consular appointments for December 4 are cancelled.
Consequently, the US Consulate General in Chennai, along with the American Center and EducationUSA office, will remain closed on Monday, December 4.

Simultaneously, VFS Global, a visa consultant firm, issued an important update regarding the closure of its Visa Application Centres in Chennai on December 5, 2023, following the local weather advisory concerning Cyclone Michaung.
Rescheduling of Visa Appointments by VFS Global
Applicants with confirmed appointments for December 4 and 5 will be contacted by VFS Global staff through email or call for the rescheduling of their appointments. The rescheduled appointments are slated to take place between December 6 and December 8.
VFS Global emphasizes the importance of carrying printouts of the appointment letters for both December 4 and 5, along with the necessary documents as per the provided checklist during the revised visit.
