In a bid to enhance customer convenience, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) has announced a significant overhaul in the issuance process for passports for Emiratis, as well as Emirates ID and residency permits for expatriates.
This revamped process aims to streamline services, reducing steps from four to one, and eliminating unnecessary fields and attachments.
Simplified Application Process
Previously, applicants had to navigate through a cumbersome four-step process. However, the ICP has now consolidated these steps into a single streamlined procedure, significantly enhancing efficiency and convenience for customers.
Reduced Paperwork
The application forms have been significantly simplified. For passports, four out of ten fields have been eliminated, while Emirates ID and residency permit applications now require six fewer fields.
Additionally, the system automatically populates the remaining fields based on previously submitted information, eliminating the need to enter the same data repeatedly.
Say Goodbye to Attachments
Gone are the days of gathering piles of paperwork. The need for photo attachments has been eliminated for passports, ID cards and residency permits, all three main attachments;
- Passport Copy
- Citizen Registration Summary, and
- Personal Photos – are no longer required.
The system retrieves this information from existing databases, with the option for users to update their photos if needed.

Embracing Technology
The UAE is leveraging technology to further enhance the process. Lost passport declarations are now handled electronically, and health insurance information for residents is retrieved automatically through institutional links.
Faster Payments
The introduction of Apple Pay and Google Pay as payment options simplifies the process even further. This reduces the number of data entry fields required for payments, saving applicants even more time.
Customer-Centric Approach
“The aspirations and needs of customers come at the forefront of the Authority’s priorities,” said Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, ICP Director General. This initiative reflects the UAE’s commitment to providing a smooth and efficient experience for citizens, residents, and visitors alike.
