In an exciting development, the Noida International Airport, situated in Jewar, has officially revealed its International Air Transport Association (IATA) code as “DXN.” This revelation comes as the airport gears up for its much-anticipated launch, expected to take flight by the end of 2024.
A Code of Significance
The IATA code, “DXN,” is poised to spring into action as soon as the airport commences its operations. These unique IATA codes play a pivotal role in distinguishing airports worldwide, ensuring seamless communication and preventing any ambiguity between countries and cities.
Beyond travelers’ documents, they are integral to various aspects of daily airport operations, including flight scheduling, ticketing, and baggage handling, facilitating smooth transitions between airports.
The Noida International Airport: A Grand Vision
Spanning an expansive 1,334 hectares in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district, the Noida International Airport is strategically located, just 72 kilometers away from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, 52 kilometers from Noida, and 130 kilometers from Agra.
The airport’s construction is a collaboration with Switzerland’s Zurich Airport, aiming to seamlessly blend Indian culture and hospitality with Swiss technological prowess and efficiency, ultimately creating a modern, user-friendly, and digitally advanced airport.
A Dream Turned Reality
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, stated, “As one of the world’s largest urban agglomerations, India’s National Capital Region deserves a second airport. Noida International Airport will make this long-standing dream a reality.”
Progress in Motion
Tata Projects has been awarded the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the airport. Noteworthy advancements include ongoing work on the structural steel required to support the passenger terminal’s roof, a soaring air traffic control (ATC) tower standing at over 30 meters, and significant progress on the runway’s subgrade.
The project currently employs a workforce of around 7,000 individuals fully dedicated to bringing the airport to life.
Future Visions
In the months ahead, more than 20 key structures are set to emerge at the site, encompassing the passenger terminal, air traffic control tower, office blocks, sewage and water treatment plants, and electric substations.
The airport has also initiated tender processes for various aeronautical and non-aeronautical concessions, including food and beverage outlets, lounges, advertising spaces, and ground handling services. Furthermore, the groundbreaking ceremony for the cargo terminal is scheduled for later this week.
Zurich Airport’s Global Reach
Zurich Airport, renowned for managing ten airports worldwide, including Zurich in Switzerland and Noida International Airport in India, has a longstanding interest in the Indian aviation sector.
While previously holding a 17% stake in Bengaluru airport, Zurich Airport gradually divested its share, ultimately exiting the Bengaluru International Airport Ltd by selling the remaining 5% to Prem Watsa’s Fairfax in 2016.
With the unveiling of its IATA code and the remarkable progress on-site, the Noida International Airport steadily marches toward its grand vision of becoming a prominent aviation hub in India. As it continues to transform dreams into reality, the anticipation for its 2024 launch only grows stronger.
