In an effort to streamline processes and provide relief to certain categories of individuals, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) has outlined exemptions for late renewal fines associated with the Emirates ID card.

Remember, failing to update your card within 30 days of expiry incurs daily penalties of Dh20, capped at Dh1,000. But worry not, certain circumstances warrant a waiver.

Who Qualifies for the Exemption?

The ICP has identified three distinct categories that qualify for exemptions from late fines related to the Emirates ID card:

1. Residing Abroad for Over Three Months: Individuals who have left the UAE and spent more than three months outside the country, with the validity of their ID card expiring after their departure, are eligible for exemption.

2. Deportation or Legal Proceedings: Those whose ID cards have expired due to deportation by a court order, an administrative decision, or a judicial ruling, or individuals whose passports are seized pending legal cases, can apply for exemption with supporting documents.

3. Pre-Nationality and Family Book Issuance: Individuals who have not been issued an ID card before obtaining UAE nationality and the family book are also exempt from late fines.

Exemption Application Process

Applying for the Emirates ID late penalty exemption is a straightforward process, and it is free of charge. Individuals can initiate the exemption request by following these steps:

Step 1 – Apply for ID Renewal: Start by submitting a request for ID card renewal through approved printing offices, electronically via the ICP website, or through the smart application.
