India May Suspend Flights To Other Countries Too: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri said on Monday that the government of India may take similar action and suspend flights with other countries too if the new coronavirus strain is seen to be spreading.

“Other European countries like Germany, Belgium, and France have suspended air travel with the UK. If we receive any information regarding spread new virus strain in other places, we’ll consider suspending air travel with other countries too,” said Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The statement comes just after India temporarily suspended all international flights To/From the United Kingdom.

It must be noted that due to the fears of a new and highly infectious coronavirus strain found in the UK, the government of India temporarily suspended all flights to and from the UK till the year-end (31st December).

“We have decided to take all necessary precautions as a result of the situation arising out of the spread of a new strain of coronavirus in some countries. All flights originating from the UK into India will be suspended temporarily from 22 Dec to 31 Dec 2020,” Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted.

France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, and Bulgaria all announced restrictions on UK travel, hours after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that Christmas shopping and gatherings in southern England must be cancelled because of rapidly spreading infections blamed on the new coronavirus variant.

Moreover, Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait have also suspended all international flights and close their borders due to the new strain of coronavirus (Covid-19).
