The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is in the process of collecting the data of pending refund by airlines to travellers for flights booked during the lockdown period.
Pradeep Singh Kharola, Secretary – Civil Aviation, Government of India, said that the matter is sub judice and the government is taking appropriate steps as per the directions of the Supreme Court of India on the matter.
“Once the complete data is collected the Ministry will sit with the airlines and try to resolve the issue “keeping in view the interest of the travellers supreme”.” He added.
Earlier, addressing the media, Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Civil Aviation Minister, claimed that the directive of the Ministry of Civil Aviation on the matter was clear and many airlines have complied with the directions. The Minister said that airline booking is a complicated system and few issues are “not precisely black and white.”
