Fully Vaccinated Visa Holders Can Enter Australia Without A Travel Exemption Starting Feb 21

VFS Global, the outsourcing and technology services company has informed that starting from 21st February 2022 all fully vaccinated visa holders can travel to Australia without a travel exemption.

However, Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated visa holders will still need a valid travel exemption to enter Australia.

This comes after the Australian Govt has announced the reopening of its borders to vaccinated tourists and other visa holders for the first time after the Coronavirus pandemic.

From 21 February 2022, all fully vaccinated visa holders can travel to Australia without a travel exemption. Unvaccinated visa holders will still need a valid travel exemption to enter Australia.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison in a statement said; “If you’re double vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back.”

Mr. Morrison on Monday also said those entering Australia when the borders fully reopened would need to provide proof of vaccination: “That’s the rule. Everyone is expected to abide by it,” he said.

Unvaccinated travelers who have a medical reason for not being jabbed will still need to apply for a travel exemption and, if successful, will be required to quarantine at a hotel.

Travel Restrictions And Exemptions

Travel to Australia is only available if you are exempt or you have been granted an individual exemption. You are automatically exempt from the travel restrictions and can enter Australia (without obtaining an individual exemption) if you are:

An Australian citizen.
A permanent resident of Australia.
An immediate family member of an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
A New Zealand citizen usually resident in Australia and their immediate family members
A person who has been in New Zealand or Australia for 14 days or more immediately prior to arrival by air in Australia.
A diplomat accredited to Australia, including their immediate family members (each member of the family unit must hold a valid subclass 995 visa).
A person transiting Australia for 72 hours or less.
airline crew, maritime crew including marine pilots.
A person recruited under the Government approved Seasonal Worker Program or Pacific Labour Scheme.
A person who holds a Business Innovation and Investment (subclass 188) visa.
A person who holds a Temporary Activity (subclass 408) visa in the ‘Post COVID-19 Economic Recovery Event’ stream and who is supported by the Global Business and Talent Attraction Taskforce.
A person invited or sponsored by the Australian Defence Force or the Department of Defence to undertake military activities.
A person who has a prescribed status and is seeking to enter Australia on a Special Purpose visa.
A fully vaccinated Singapore citizen travelling from Singapore and arriving into a participating Australian state or territory that allows fully vaccinated travellers to arrive quarantine free.
A fully vaccinated Japanese citizen travelling from Japan and arriving into a participating Australian state or territory that allows fully vaccinated travellers to arrive quarantine-free.
A fully vaccinated citizen of the Republic of Korea (South Korea), travelling from South Korea and arriving into a participating Australian state or territory that allows fully vaccinated travellers to arrive quarantine-free.
A fully vaccinated person who holds a valid visa listed on the New arrangements for eligible visa holders.
A fully vaccinated New Zealand passport holder seeking to enter Australia on a Special Category (TY444) visa.
