VFS Global, the world’s largest outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions, has been awarded the global biometric collection service for Australian visas.
The agreement, which spans seven regions, will see VFS Global open new biometric collection centres in the Americas region for the first time.
Expanding Geographical Reach
The awarded contract includes the operation of Australian biometric collection centres (ABCC) at a staggering 165 locations worldwide, extending beyond the existing locations operated by VFS Global.
These regions encompass the Americas, Mekong, Middle East and North Africa, North Asia, Pacific, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. This strategic move signifies Australia’s commitment to strengthening its visa application and security infrastructure.
Comprehensive Services
Under this agreement, VFS Global will offer a range of core services, including Biometric Collection and Identity Verification, Digital Assistance for online visa application submissions, and Online Payment Assistance via the Department’s ImmiAccount portal.
Additionally, the company will provide supplementary services as needed, such as remote interview hosting, document and claim verification, paper digitization, local addressing, and document delivery.
Rollout Phases
The implementation of this initiative will occur in two phases. By January 1, 2024, a total of 59 centres will be operational in the first phase, aligning with the department’s directives. The second phase will follow, ensuring a comprehensive rollout of services.

Australia Visa and Biometrics
Australia visa applicants are required to submit their biometric data, which includes their fingerprints and facial photographs. This data is used to verify their identity and help prevent fraud. Biometrics can be submitted at an Australian Biometric Collection Centre (ABCC), which is operated by VFS Global.
To book an appointment at an ABCC, applicants must first create an ImmiAccount and submit their visa application.
Once the application has been submitted, applicants will receive a Biometric Requirement Letter (BRL) if they are required to submit their biometrics. The BRL will include instructions on how to book an appointment at an ABCC.
On the day of the appointment, applicants must bring their BRL, a valid passport, and proof of identity. The biometric collection process is quick and easy, and it takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
