Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccine deployment minister of the United Kingdom (UK) said on Sunday that the country will not require a COVID-19 vaccine passport for travel.

“We are certainly not looking to introduce it as part of the vaccine deployment program,” Zahawi told Sky News.

Zahawi further added that citizens can seek proof of their vaccinations from the doctors if needed for travel to other countries.

Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi said Sunday that vaccine passports would be discriminatory and officials did not want getting vaccinated to be “made in some way mandatory through a passport.”

Countries including Greece have said they will waive quarantine requirements for those who have had their jabs.

Governments and developers around the world are exploring how such certificates could help to reopen economies by identifying those protected against COVID-19.

Sweden plans to launch a digital coronavirus “vaccine passport” by summer, the government said earlier. “When Sweden and countries around us start to open up our societies again, vaccination certificates are likely to be required for travel and possibly for taking part in other activities,” Swedish digitalization minister Anders Ygeman told a news conference.

Denmark said on Wednesday that it would launch the first version of a coronavirus vaccination passport by the end of February.
