UAE Airlines Shifts All Flight Operations to Abu Dhabi’s New Terminal A

In a significant development, twenty-eight leading airlines have completed their transition to Terminal A at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH), marking a pivotal moment for the airport’s operations. The official confirmation came from the airport operator on Wednesday.

Terminal A: The New Hub of Activity

Terminal A now stands as the primary facility serving Abu Dhabi International Airport, heralding a new era in aviation for the region.

This successful transition is expected to bring about a substantial increase in capacity, with the terminal geared to process up to 45 million travellers annually and accommodate a remarkable 79 planes simultaneously.

Capacity Boost and December Debut

As Terminal A takes centre stage, it is poised to welcome over 2.29 million passengers on 12,220 flights scheduled for December. This state-of-the-art terminal promises to enhance the overall passenger experience, setting a benchmark for future travel through Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Impressive November Operations

The operational shift to Terminal A commenced in November, with 1,557 flights operated within the first two weeks. By the end of the month, the total number of flights is expected to surpass 7,600, underscoring the seamless transition undertaken by the airlines.

Elena Sorlini, the Managing Director and Interim CEO at Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed her optimism about the transformation, stating;

“With all airlines now operating from Terminal A, I’m pleased to announce a new era for operations at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Bringing new state-of-the-art facilities and a major increase in aviation capacity, Terminal A will greatly enhance the passenger experience, whilst enabling international airlines to further increase their presence in Abu Dhabi.”

Official Opening and Renaming

The grand official opening ceremony for Terminal A is scheduled for February 9, 2024. Following this milestone event, Abu Dhabi International Airport will be officially renamed Zayed International Airport, solidifying its status as a key player in the global aviation landscape.
