As Thailand gears up for the holiday season, the nation is set to host a series of cultural and sporting events, including the Loi Krathong festival, Bangkok Marathon, and New Year celebrations.

The Winter Festival, announced last week by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, aims to highlight Thailand’s unique culture and attract tourists during the peak season from November to January.

Thailand Eyes 90-Day Visas for European Tourists

Prommin Lertsuridej, a senior advisor to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, revealed in a recent interview that Thailand is exploring the possibility of extending visa durations for tourists from certain European countries to up to 90 days.

“We will devise more attractions and promotions to encourage tourists to extend their stay,” Prommin, who serves as the Prime Minister’s secretary-general, stated.

3,000 Events to Keep Tourists Engaged

Thailand is further planning to host an array of events, including music concerts, marathons, and cultural celebrations, throughout the year to maintain tourist interest and extend their stay. By offering a diverse range of attractions, Thailand aims to position itself as a premier destination for extended vacations.

Visa Exemption Extension for Indian Travellers

In another positive development, Thailand is exploring the possibility of extending its visa exemption pilot program, granting Indian tourists a 30-day stay. Originally set for six months until May 10 next year, the decision to prolong this initiative will be contingent on feedback received from both tour operators and travellers.

Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), expressed optimism about the extension, stating;

“While similar exemptions for Kazakhstan and China were granted for three months, for India, it is six months. And if we receive positive feedback from tour operators and travellers, we will request cabinet approval for further extension.”

Indian Ambassador Nagesh Singh commended Thailand’s proactive efforts to revitalize the tourism industry, emphasizing the trust placed in India.

The visa-free arrangement not only benefits tourists but also streamlines the immigration process, making it simpler and faster for travellers.
