Ten more private trains from Mumbai on cards

As much as 10 more routes have been planned for ‘private trains to be operated from Mumbai in 2020 and bids for these will be invited within a fortnight, an official announced on Sunday. A total of 26 routes will be operated from Mumbai to the rest of India through a private train network.

This comes close on heels of IRCTC gearing up to operate the city’s first private train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad from January 17. 

The proposed trains include Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai, Aurangabad and Mumbai Madgaon inter-city. Sources said trains planned include Mumbai-Howrah, Mumbai-Chennai, and Mumbai-New Delhi. Other prominent routes include Mumbai-Varanasi and Mumbai-Nagpur in which private trains will be operated in both directions.

Around 15 more routes are being identified for Mumbai for private trains, besides considering if private players can ply trains on the suburban corridor on Harbour or Main.
