Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism has unveiled an exciting new development in its ongoing efforts to boost tourism and enhance international connectivity. The Ministry has introduced an initiative to grant electronic tourist visas to eight additional countries, signalling a significant expansion of its global outreach.

The countries newly included in this initiative are;

  1. Azerbaijan
  2. Albania
  3. Uzbekistan
  4. South Africa
  5. Georgia
  6. Tajikistan
  7. Kyrgyzstan, and
  8. Maldives

Nationals from these nations now have the opportunity to apply for tourist visas to the Kingdom, either electronically or upon their arrival at KSA international ports of entry.

Aligning with Saudi Vision 2030

This bold move is fully aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, a transformative blueprint that outlines the Kingdom’s aspirations for economic diversification and growth. As part of this vision, Saudi Arabia aims to increase the tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP from 3% to more than 10%.

Embracing Cultural Exploration

The newly introduced tourist visa opens the doors for individuals to explore the diverse regions of Saudi Arabia and even engage in Umrah, a significant spiritual journey for many.

It is important to note that while enjoying their stay in the Kingdom, tourists are expected to adhere to all relevant regulations and instructions, including the requirement to carry identification at all times.

However, it’s essential to highlight that the tourist visa does not permit the performance of Hajj or Umrah during the Hajj season, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to managing the influx of visitors and ensuring a smooth pilgrimage experience for those participating in these sacred rituals.

Strengthening International Ties

This initiative serves as an extension of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to promote global openness and communication. By facilitating tourism and economic diversification, Saudi Arabia is actively working to achieve the key objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

This strategic move underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering development and strengthening ties with the international community.

A Timeline of Progress

This latest development builds upon the foundation laid by previous initiatives. On September 27, 2019, Saudi Arabia introduced the tourist visa program, initially targeting 49 countries. This number expanded to 57 with subsequent additions.

Furthermore, in March of a recent year, the Ministry extended the opportunity for all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) residents, regardless of their vocation, to apply for tourist visas.

This inclusive approach is designed to give GCC residents a chance to explore Saudi tourist destinations, engage in cultural events, and immerse themselves in the nation’s heritage and attractions.
