In a landmark development aimed at transforming India’s rail infrastructure, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated nine cutting-edge Vande Bharat trains through a virtual ceremony today.
These trains represent a significant stride towards fulfilling the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing nationwide connectivity and delivering world-class amenities to rail travellers.

- Vijayawada – Chennai (via Renigunta) Vande Bharat Express
- Patna – Howrah Vande Bharat Express
- Kasaragod – Thiruvananthapuram Vande Bharat Express
- Rourkela – Bhubaneswar – Puri Vande Bharat Express
- Ranchi – Howrah Vande Bharat Express
- Jamnagar-Ahmedabad Vande Bharat Express
Modern and Comfortable Travel
Addressing the occasion, Prime Minister Modi hailed the launch of these nine Vande Bharat Trains as an unprecedented milestone in India’s modern connectivity. He emphasized that these trains offer a more modern and comfortable travel experience, symbolizing the spirit of a “New India.”
Expanding Vande Bharat Network
Currently, 25 Vande Bharat trains serve passengers across various states and union territories. With the addition of these nine new trains, Prime Minister Modi expressed optimism about Vande Bharat connecting every corner of the nation soon.
He highlighted the trains’ utility for time-efficient same-day travel and the boost they provide to tourism and economic activities in connected regions.
Proud Moments for India
Prime Minister Modi underscored the prevailing atmosphere of hope and confidence in India, citing achievements like Chandrayaan 3, Aditya L1, and the successful hosting of the G20.
He also lauded the Narishakti Vandan Act as a pivotal moment for women-led development, mentioning that several railway stations are now managed by women functionaries.
Railway Transformation
Acknowledging the past neglect of the railways sector, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming Indian Railways.
He revealed that this year’s railway budget is eight times larger than that of 2014, with ongoing efforts to double, electrify, and create new railway routes.
Modernizing Railway Stations
Prime Minister Modi stressed the need to modernize railway stations, emphasizing the launch of a development and modernization campaign across India.
He mentioned the construction of numerous foot-over bridges, lifts, and escalators for passenger convenience and the commencement of the redevelopment of over 500 major stations, which will be known as Amrit Bharat Stations.
Celebrating Railway Stations
The Prime Minister expressed his happiness at the commencement of celebrating the establishment day of railway stations, such as the 150th-anniversary celebrations of Coimbatore Railway Station. He encouraged further expansion of this tradition to involve more people.
Towards a Developed India by 2047
Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed the commitment to Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, emphasizing the importance of inclusive development across all states. He urged a collective vision of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas” to ensure no state lags behind.

Directing his words to railway employees, the Prime Minister called for delivering memorable journeys to passengers, emphasizing a continuous focus on the ease of travel and customer satisfaction.
