New COVID-19 Strain: 14 More UK Returnees Tested Positive

The total number of new Covid-19 strain cases rose to 20 with 14 new UK returnees tested positive today, according to ministry data.

Earlier, on Tuesday, six returnees from the UK have tested positive for the new virus strain.

8 samples tested positive from NCDC, Delhi, 7 from NIMHANS, Bengaluru, 2 from CCMB, Hyderabad, 1 from NIBG Kalyani near Kolkata, 1 from NIV, Pune, and 1 from IGIB, Delhi.

However, all 6 infected persons have been kept in single room isolation, the Union Health Ministry has revealed.

With the news cases found, the COVID-19 caseload has reached to 1,02,44,852. The recoveries crossed 98 lakh, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

The entire issue was examined at length by NTF on 26th December 2020 and the NTF concluded that there is no need to change either the existing National Treatment Protocol or existing Testing Protocols in view of the mutant variant.

It is important to note that the presence of the new UK Variant has already been reported by Denmark, Netherlands, Australia, Italy, Sweden, France, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Lebanon and Singapore, so far, says the government.

However, as the govt says, the situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the States for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing & dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs.
