Northeast India is set to experience enhanced regional connectivity as JettWings Airways has been granted a no objection certificate (NOC) by the civil aviation ministry to operate scheduled commuter air transport services.
This approval marks a significant milestone, as JettWings Airways becomes the first-ever airline to establish operations from the northeastern part of the country.
Regional Connectivity Boost for Northeast and Eastern Regions
In a statement released by the airline, they revealed their initial plans to provide regional connectivity to destinations in the northeast and eastern regions under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Indian government aimed at promoting affordable air travel.
Sanjay Aditya Singh, the co-founder and CEO of JettWings Airways, expressed his commitment to working closely with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to fulfil all necessary requirements for commencing operations.
Singh stated, “Once we are granted the AOC, we strongly believe and commit to becoming a reliable and sustainable airline with its roots deeply entrenched in northeast India.”
Singh emphasized the significance of having an airline based in the northeast region that conducts business in India. He stated, “JettWings Airways shall strive to achieve the same in the next few months of our preparation as we near takeoff.”
Highlighting the potential impact of the UDAN scheme on the region, Sanjive Narain, the chairman of JettWings Airways, acknowledged the airline’s unique opportunity to improve connectivity and create new economic prospects in the northeast region.
Premium Economy Services and Loyalty Program
As part of its service offerings, JettWings Airways plans to introduce premium economy services and a loyalty program. The airline’s fleet will consist of state-of-the-art aircraft with a dual-class configuration, featuring business class and premium economy options.
Northeast India’s Aviation Sector Progresses
In recent years, northeast India has witnessed a significant surge in aviation connectivity. Earlier this year, Jyotiraditya Scindia, the civil aviation minister, revealed that the number of operational airports in the northeast had increased from nine in 2014 to 16 at present. Previously, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim had no airports, but they now boast three and four airports, respectively.
In an interesting development, JettWings Airways’ CEO, Sanjay Aditya Singh, also holds the position of Chairman at the JettWings Group of Institutes. The institute, based in Guwahati, Assam, focuses on aviation, tourism management, hospitality, business, travel, fashion, design, and architecture.
According to their website, the institute has successfully placed more than 15,100 students in various countries, with major recruiters in the aviation industry including Emirates, Vistara, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Air Asia, and IndiGo, among others.
