An E-Signature campaign for the Petition ‘Refund all charges associated with airline tickets issued prior and during the COVID-19 lockdown period in India’ has been initiated by Pravasi Legal Cell in association with IATA Agents Association of India ( IAAI ).

On behalf of the IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI) & IAAI Air Passenger Rights Forum, jointly with the Pravasi Legal Cell, urge all air passengers and our travel and tourism stakeholders to support our petition filled in the Hon Supreme court of India to “Refund all charges associated with airline tickets issued prior and during the Covid-19 lockdown period in India”.

Earlier ‘Pravasi Legal Cell” filed a PIL through its President Adv. Jose Abraham which is Impleaded by Shri Biji Eapen as President of IAAI, seeking orders to the Central Government and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for appropriate directions to Airlines for a full refund of all tickets issued before and after March 24 for the Flights that were supposed to operate and canceled due to Coronavirus COVID-19 advisories, travel ban and lockdown.

At this instant, Hon. Supreme Court of India on 12th June 2020 asked Ministry of Civil Aviation and Directorate General of Civil Aviation to work out a solution for the refund of Airfares to Passengers who had booked Flight Tickets, and Hon.SC is likely to hear the plea next after three weeks.

Airline Companies, instead of showing humanitarian virtues, is rather seeing these challenging times of COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to extract unlawful gains from the Passengers who are already in misery due to uncertainties, and the present policy is extremely harsh on the ordinary passengers, who booked tickets in advance for travel.

In this respect, IAAI again, drawn the attention of our Civil Aviation Regulators to comprehend the rationale of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s enforcement notices issued on 3rd April, directing that all US and foreign carriers remain obligated for a prompt refund on flights that were canceled due to Coronavirus public health emergency.

Similarly, the European Union also issued a statement confirming that the EU Law requires refund of Air Tickets to be made within seven days.

We request Air Passengers and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industry partners in India to spare a minute to Sign the Petition jointly initiated by Pravasi Legal Cell (PLC) and IATA Agents Association of India (IAAI), to help Passengers to get back their hard-earned monies from Airlines. Our goal is to reach 10,000 signatures and we need more support.
