What is Honorary Consulate?
Honorary consuls, as opposed to career diplomats, are typically citizens of the country in which they live, work, and pay taxes. Foreign governments appoint them to handle the concerns of their citizens who live in the host country. Being an honorary consul is not limited to celebrities; ordinary citizens can also serve in this capacity.
The term “honorary” refers to the fact that honorary consuls serve on a volunteer basis and are not compensated for their services. They carry out their duties with a sense of duty and commitment to their country and its people.
Increasing Lithuania’s Visibility in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Karolis Žemaitis, Lithuania’s Vice Minister of Economy and Innovation, attended the opening ceremony and expressed his excitement about the new honorary consulate.
He stated that the new office will increase Lithuania’s visibility in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, particularly in economic fields such as biotechnology, life sciences, information and communication technology, and digital solutions.
Kiran Divi, who also serves on the Board of Directors for Divi’s Labs, has stated his desire to strengthen Lithuania’s presence in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
He believes that his appointment as Honorary Consul will usher in a new era in Lithuania’s relationship with one of India’s most technologically advanced regions.
