Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways announced that it will offer a new type of health insurance that will cover necessary medical and quarantine expenses for all passengers diagnosed with COVID-19 while traveling.
Global wellness insurance COVID-19 is part of the airline’s new health and hygiene program. In the press release, the airline stated that if the passenger is diagnosed with COVID-19 during their trip, under the program, any medical or quarantine costs will be paid by the airline.
“The safety, health, and wellbeing of our guests and employees is our top priority, during and beyond the flight. The introduction of global COVID-19 insurance builds on stringent measures already in place as part of our Etihad Wellness programme“, Duncan Bureau, the Senior Vice President of Etihad Airways said in the airline press release.
According to the airline, all Etihad tickets for travel between September 8, 2020 and December 31, 2020 come with COVID-19 insurance regardless of the booking date.
The airline announced that passengers who have already booked their flight will be automatically included in the program. The COVID-19 insurance is valid worldwide for 31 days from the first day of travel.
The airline announced that for a passenger diagnosed with COVID-19 abroad, the insurance will cover medical costs of up to € 150,000 and quarantine costs of up to € 100 per day for 14 days.
“This additional coverage not only creates confidence in the travel, but also reassures our guests that we are doing everything we can to keep them safe and secure. As more and more countries open their borders, we are making it as easy as possible for our guests to easily plan their next trip, ”said Bureau.
With this measure, the airline wants to stimulate the lower passenger demand and strengthen travel confidence.
