International students aspiring to study in Canada now have more language test options for their Student Direct Stream (SDS) applications. The Canadian government recently approved the inclusion of PTE Academic as an accepted language test for SDS applications, providing applicants with additional flexibility and choices.

This move comes as part of the government’s efforts to streamline the study permit application process while maintaining high language proficiency standards.

PTE Academic: A New Language Test Option

Starting from August 10, 2023, Canada will begin accepting PTE Academic test scores for all SDS applications. This internationally recognized computer-based English language proficiency test is trusted by educational institutions, governments, and organizations worldwide.

Test takers must achieve an overall score of 60 in the PTE Academic test to qualify for the SDS program. Applicants who have already taken the PTE Academic test and possess a valid Score Report can utilize it for their SDS application.

Validating Existing PTE Academic Scores

Students who have previously taken the PTE Academic test can still benefit from this change. PTE Academic test results taken before August 10, 2023, will remain eligible for SDS applications, as long as they are submitted within the validity period specified by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Advantages of PTE Academic

PTE Academic offers a fair, accurate, and secure assessment format, making it a reliable way for applicants to demonstrate their English language proficiency for study, work, or immigration purposes.

With this addition to the list of approved language tests, aspiring international students now have more options to showcase their language skills and fulfil the SDS requirements.

The Student Direct Stream (SDS) Program

The SDS program is designed to expedite the study permit process for students applying to study in Canada from specific countries. Eligible applicants must be legal residents of one of the following countries:
