Air India, under the ownership of the Tata Group, is gearing up to broaden its horizons in the aviation industry. Sources close to the matter revealed that the airline plans to introduce more ultra-long-haul flights, primarily targeting major cities in the United States including Seattle, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
This strategic move comes alongside the expansion of their aircraft fleet, with a focus on acquiring additional A350s and B777s.
New Routes to US Cities
In a bid to enhance connectivity, Air India is eyeing direct flights from various Indian cities to key destinations in the United States. According to reliable sources, the airline is set to launch services to Seattle, Los Angeles, and Dallas during the upcoming winter schedule of 2024-25.
Currently, Air India stands as the sole Indian carrier offering services to several prominent US cities, including Washington, New York, Newark, San Francisco, and Chicago.
Aircraft Deployment Strategy
The deployment strategy for these new routes indicates the utilization of different aircraft models. The A350 is expected to serve the Seattle route, while flights to Los Angeles and Dallas will likely be operated by the B777. These forthcoming ultra-long-haul flights are anticipated to have durations exceeding 16 hours.

Presently, flights to London are serviced by the B787 fleet from Delhi and Mumbai.
Furthermore, sources suggest that Air India is slated to commence flights to London Gatwick from Bengaluru next month, utilizing a Boeing Dreamliner aircraft.
Challenges and Considerations
While the prospect of launching flights to new destinations remains promising, Air India acknowledges the various factors influencing such decisions. The availability of pilots and crew, among other operational considerations, plays a pivotal role in the airline’s strategic planning.
Looking Towards the Future

Air India spokespersons refrained from commenting on the specific plans, keeping the anticipation high for what lies ahead in the airline’s journey towards growth and innovation.
