Air India Plans to Hire 4,200 Cabin Crew and 900 Pilots in 2023

The new recruits will undergo a rigorous training programme that emphasises safety, customer service, and cultural representation. This move comes after Air India secured significant aircraft agreements with Airbus SE and Boeing to deliver 470 planes.

According to media reports, Air India, an Indian full-service carrier owned by the Tata Group, plans to hire approximately 4,200 cabin crew trainees and 900 pilots in 2023. This announcement comes less than a week after the airline reached significant delivery agreements for 470 aircraft with Airbus SE and Boeing.

Air India Expansion Plans

To meet the growing demand for both domestic and international flights, Air India’s expansion plans necessitate the hiring of more cabin crew and pilots.

Sandeep Verma, the Head of Inflight Service, stressed the importance of cabin crew in shaping the future of the Air India Group in a statement. Air India also intends to hire additional pilots and maintenance engineers to support the airline’s Vihaan, AI transformation effort.

Current and Past Hiring Trends

Previously, Air India employed over 1,900 cabin crew members. Around 1,100 cabin crew were hired between July 2022 and January 2023. Between May 2022 and February 2023, another 900 recruits were added. In addition, the airline has released 500 cabin crew members to fly.

Training Program

According to Verma, hiring new talent will help Air India’s culture development, which is an important part of their Vihaan, AI transformation effort.

Applicants from across the country will go through a 15-week training programme to learn about safety and customer service. They will also be trained on how to best represent Indian hospitality and the Tata Group culture.

As part of their training, they would also receive intensive classroom and in-flight training at the carrier’s training centre in Mumbai, as well as familiarisation flights.
