Indian Railway Catering &amp; Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), to ensure speedy refund for passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The refund amount will be applicable against cancelled or waitlisted tickets booked by around 1.7 lakh authorized agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is aimed to bring in a transparent and customer-friendly refund system for reserved e-tickets which are cancelled or which are fully waitlisted dropped tickets,&#8221; Indian Railways said on Tuesday, adding that the new system will be implemented by IRCTC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe objective of the scheme is to streamline the cancellation refund process further so that the cancellation amount is refunded timely to the customer by the agents,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irctc.co.in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"IRCTC (opens in a new tab)\">IRCTC<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the amount is refunded within four-five days if a ticket is booked by the passenger, at times it would take as much as three weeks to receive the refund when booked by an agent, a government official explained. \u201cThe OTP-based system will ensure that the passengers do not remain in the dark,&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OTP will be received as SMS on the registered mobile number of the passenger provided by the passenger to the agent at the time of booking. Thereafter, the passenger will have to share the OTP with the agent to get the refund amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe passenger will come to know about the exact refund amount received by agent on his behalf against cancelled ticket or fully waitlisted dropped ticket,&#8221; IRCTC said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the amount is refunded within four-five days if a ticket is booked by the passenger, at times it would take as much as three weeks to receive the refund when booked by an agent, a government official explained. \u201cThe OTP-based system will ensure that the passengers do not remain in the dark,&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The OTP will be received as SMS on the customer&#8217;s registered mobile number which is provided by the customer to the agent at the time of booking.
