The low-cost carrier IndiGo announced on Wednesday that as part of its charter flights and the Vande Bharat Mission, it had flown over 75,000 passengers between India and the Middle East through 487 flights until Tuesday.
- The Vande Bharat Mission is a central government initiative to repatriate Indian nationals stranded abroad.
These international flights were operated from countries in the Middle East such as the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and other Asian countries such as the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia and Hong Kong, said IndiGo.
From July 3 to 14, IndiGo operated 436 international passenger charter flights and 51 international return flights as part of the Vande Bharat Mission carrying 75,428 passengers, reported the airline.
Of these, 65,865 were on the flights between India and the Middle East.
IndiGo said in the press release that it also managed substantial traffic from seafarers to and from destinations such as Doha, Colombo, Hong Kong, and Singapore, and added that IndiGo had 9,334 citizens aboard Vande Bharat mission flights returned.
“We have successfully completed nearly 500 international flights in almost 1.5 months, including passenger charter and return flights on the Vande Bharat mission.
“We are grateful to the government for trusting us to operate these flights and to join the Vande Bharat mission,” said Ronojoy Dutta, CEO of IndiGo.
