The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (US CIS) recently launched the H1-B electronic registration process. The registration process allows registrants and their authorised representatives to apply for H-1B workers who are subject to the cap.

However, some users faced technical issues that prevented them from completing the registration process. As a result, USCIS plans to extend the registration deadline.

In a tweet, USCIS said, “Currently, some users are not able to complete the H-1B registration process. We apologize for any inconvenience & are working to fix the issue. We will extend the registration deadline. Stay tuned for more details.”

H-1B Electronic Registration Process

The H1-B electronic registration process requires basic information about the prospective petitioner and each requested worker. The initial registration period is for a minimum of 14 calendar days each fiscal year.

After the registration period, the H-1B selection process is run on properly submitted electronic registrations.

How to Register for H-1B Visa

below is the step-by-step instructions to submit an H-1B visa registration:

  1. Create a USCIS online account: In order to submit an H-1B registration, the first step is to create a USCIS online account.
  2. Use a “registrant” account within myUSCIS: After creating the USCIS online account, prospective petitioners must use a “registrant” account within myUSCIS to submit registrations.
  3. Enter company information: Once the registrants select the “I am an H-1B registrant” account type, they can enter their company information as part of their first H-1B registration.
  4. Representatives can create an account at any time: Representatives can create an account at any time using the same account type already available to representatives. If they already have a representative account, they do not need to create a new one.

By following these steps, you can successfully submit an H-1B registration through the USCIS online portal.

Last Day of H-1B Registration

According to the USCIS website, today (March 17, 2023) is the last day of registration for the FY 2024 H-1B cap-subject petitions. Registrants or their representatives are required to pay a $10 non-refundable fee for every registration.

FY 2024 H-1B Cap Registration Process Update

It is worth mentioning here that more than 48,000 prospective petitioners registered, and roughly 31% of all eligible registrations requested consideration under the advanced degree exemption.

To calculate the number of petitions required to meet the H-1B cap for a given fiscal year, USCIS considers historical data on approvals, denials, revocations, and other relevant factors.

Important Dates for US H-1B Visa Applicants

The H-1B registration period closes at noon Eastern on March 17. USCIS intends to notify selected registrants by March 31. The earliest date that FY 2024 H-1B cap-subject petitions may be filed is April 1.
