The US Embassy in India stated on Sunday that in-person tourist visa and Visitor Visa B1, and B2 appointments will be resumed in India beginning in September 2022.

It is worth noting that applicants for US visas are required to appear in person for a visa interview at the US Embassy or Consulate.

The Embassy further stated that all previously scheduled placeholder appointments have been cancelled, adding that such applicants may now re-enter the scheduling system to book regular appointments which are available till 2023.

“The U.S. Mission to India is pleased to announce that we are resuming routine in-person tourist visa appointments in September 2022. Previously scheduled placeholders have now been cancelled.”

The B1, B2 visa is a short-term visa for persons who desire to go to the United States for business and leisure. This visa has a 10 year maximum validity period.

While a US B1 visa is only valid for business travel, the B1/B2 visa is valid for both business and tourism and leisure purposes. The B1/B2 visa is also known as the B2 visa or the US Visitor visa.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the US Embassy in India had halted conducting interviews for B1-B2 visas in March 2020, and the announcement about the restart of tourist visa interviews comes as a huge relief to many Indians who had been forced to put their travel plans on hold for the last several months.
