The US Consul General in Mumbai, Mike Hankey, announced on Tuesday that the US intends to increase the number of visa interview appointments for Indian students by 30% this summer.
The move is part of an initiative to encourage more Indian students to study in the United States.
Record Number of Indian Students Studied in the US Last Year
According to Hankey, nearly 1.25 lakh visa applications for students in India were processed by US consulates last year. He also mentioned that over 1.25 lakh Indian students went to the United States last year, breaking the previous record for the number of Indian students studying in the United States in a single year.
Hankey went on to say that this achievement established India as the leading country in terms of sending students to the United States.

US Hopes to Welcome More Indian Students this Year
Hankey also stated that the United States hopes to welcome more Indian students this year. This summer, the goal is to increase the number of interview appointments for Indian students by 30%.
The American envoy is optimistic that this initiative will enable more Indian students to pursue higher education in the United States.
American Envoy Interacts with Students and Business Leaders
On Tuesday, Hankey visited Aurangabad and met with industry representatives before visiting Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University to meet with students. He also encouraged the students to visit relevant websites and find a curriculum that was appropriate for them.
Hankey also met with conservationist and industrialist Mukund Bhogale to learn about the Marathwada region’s historical legacy and efforts to preserve its heritage.
He also met with an industrial delegation to discuss the supply of aluminium to the global aerospace and defence supply chain.
