United Suspends Daily Delhi-Chicago Flight for Summer 2023

United Airlines, a major American airline which operates on a large domestic and international network has announced the suspension of its daily nonstop flight between Delhi and Chicago for the entire summer season.

However, the airline has expected to resume the flight again only from the winter season which starts by the end of October 2023.

Passengers who have booked this sector will now need to be rescheduled by United either on other airlines or adjusted to its Delhi-Newark flight, which is currently the only flight being operated by the carrier.

Reasons for Suspension

The suspension of the Delhi-Chicago flight is due to the ongoing situation in Russia, where the country’s war on Ukraine has resulted in longer flight routes for several airlines, including United, as they are not permitted to overfly Russian airspace.

It is important to note that United Airlines has previously suspended all of its flights between San Francisco and Delhi, as well as between Newark and Mumbai.

Other Airlines Operating in India

Other airlines such as American operate a Delhi-New York daily flight, while Delta is yet to resume its India flights after March 2020.

On the other hand, Air India under the Tatas has been adding US nonstops, given the high demand for travel between the two countries, particularly with the increased demand for direct connectivity due to Covid-19.

Air India has resumed its Bengaluru-San Francisco flight and currently operates 37 weekly nonstops to various US destinations, such as New York, Newark, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Chicago, and is also linking Mumbai and San Francisco.
