According to an update issued on Tuesday by Emirates on its official website, wearing a face mask on flights is no more mandatory for passengers. However, passengers may have to wear one if required by the rules at the destination.

The Update Reads;

“Wearing a face mask is optional in the UAE and on Emirates flights. If you are travelling from or transiting through Dubai International, the mask rules of your destination will apply throughout your journey.”

This means that if a passenger’s destination requires them to wear masks, the airline will comply with the rules and passengers need to wear the mask.

In a similar update, Flydubai, Dubai based low-cost carrier also said that wearing a face mask is optional for travellers.

The airline on its website said, “Effective from September 28, 2022, passengers travelling to Dubai do not need to wear a face mask while on board their flight. At the airport, wearing a face mask is optional and not mandatory.”

UAE Eases Covid-19 Restrictions

It is important to note that, recently the UAE relaxed most Covid safety regulations and the decision to remove the mask requirement on flights follows directives issued by the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA).

However, airlines may enforce the rule if they deem it necessary.

The National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) announced on Monday that COVID-19 restrictions would be lifted in the country beginning Wednesday, September 28.

According to a government spokesperson, the need for pre-departure testing for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers will be determined by the requirements of their destinations,

UAE airlines disinfect their aircraft on a regular basis, and advanced HEPA filters remove the majority of viruses, germs, and allergens.

Mask wearing has been made optional in all public areas in the UAE, with the exception of medical facilities, mosques, and public transportation, as part of the significant changes announced to Covid safety measures.
