The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on Sunday announced to issue International Driving Licence or International Driving Permit (IDP) for Indian citizens abroad.
Yes, from February 15, the International Driving Licence holders can also get their licence renewed online through the Indian embassies if the current one expires when they are still abroad.
Citizens Can Apply From Indian Embassies Abroad
With this update, Indian citizens can apply for an extension at the Indian embassies/missions abroad, from where these applications can be forwarded to the VAHAN portal in India to be checked by the respective regional tourist offices (RTOs). The licence would be sent to the citizen by the respective RTOs at his / her address abroad.
No Medical Certificate Require
This update also removes the requirement of a Medical Certificate and a valid visa at the time of making the licence renewal in India, the Ministry informed.
The amendment also added. “There are countries where the Visa is issued on arrival or Visa is issued at the last moment. In such cases, VISA is not available when applying for the IDP in India before travel. Hence, the International Driving Permit (IDP) application can be made without VISA now.”
