Tourism Ministry to Launch Database of Hospitality Industry

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has announced that they will be launching NIDHI- National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry on September 27, 2020, i.e. World Tourism Day.

According to Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State, Tourism & Culture (I/C), MOT is also set to launch a Certification System for the hospitality sector in the country.

The system is worked out in association with the Quality Council of India (QCI) in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic to boost confidence in the minds of the customers.

“NIDHI will be a source of information for the country and the world. MOT had 1600 hotels registered with it; after the discussion with stakeholders, this figure has reached 21,000.”

As per the sources, the certification program, named, SAATHI (System for Assessment, Awareness & Training for Hospitality Industry) and NIDHI- (National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry) is most likely to be launched after consultation with states and other stakeholders of the industry on World Tourism Day, September 27.

The Certification will have three components – Self-Certification (Initial stage); Capacity Building (Training in terms of SOPs and Guidelines), and finally the Third-party Assessment (Certification).
