Thailand: Thai Smile, Other Airlines Suspends All Domestic Flights Until August 03

Thai Smile, the regional subsidiary of Thai Airways on Tuesday announced a temporary suspension of all its scheduled domestic commercial flights from 21 July until 3 August.

The announcement comes after The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand suspends most domestic flights starting today (Wednesday 21st July)

The aviation authority on 18th July in a statement said that it would require local airlines to suspend commercial passenger flights to and from “dark red” zones, which are provinces classified as having the highest infection risk, starting 21 July, in line with travel restrictions imposed on these provinces.

Apart from Thai Smile domestic flights of Bangkok Airways, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, and Thai VietJet will also remain grounded from July 21 to August 3.

“Thai Smile has temporarily suspended all of its scheduled domestic commercial flight operations starting July 21, 2021, until August 3, 2021, in response to the regulations and in support of the containment efforts by the Government of Thailand,”

 Thai Airways informed the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Thai AirAsia has already suspended all domestic flights from 12 July until 31 July “in support of the Covid-19 containment efforts of the government of Thailand”.

However, international and domestic flights under special schemes, such as Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus Model will continue to operate as normal.

Thai Smile on Tuesday said that it will continue to evaluate the situation closely and reinstate services as soon as the situation improves.

It may be noted that on 19th July Thailand has reported a record number of confirmed Covid-19 cases: 11,784, according to World Health Organization data.

The kingdom had fully vaccinated 4.9% of its population, while 15.5% had had the first dose, as of 17 July.
