SpiceJet To Charge ₹100 For Check-In At Airport Counter

No-frills carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday announced that it will charge ₹100 as a service fee from passengers for check-in at the airport counters.

“Web check-in is mandatory! Visit our website or app to check-in online and obtain your boarding pass for free, up to 60 minutes prior to your flight’s departure. And now, you may also check-in at the airport, for a facilitation fee of Rs 100 per passenger,’ SpiceJet said in a tweet.

Earlier this month low-cost carrier IndiGo has also started charging a service fee of Rs 100 for check-in at the airport counters.

Indigo in a statement said: “IndiGo has introduced a service fee of INR 100 for check-in at the airport counters effective October 17, 2020.”

After resuming Domestic flights on 25 May, to reduce touchpoints at the airports the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has made the web check-in mandatory for all passengers.

“From May 25, only passengers with confirmed web check-in will be allowed to enter an airport terminal, the Civil Aviation Ministry said, and added that there will be no physical check-in at counters,” SOPs released by the MoCA said.

On Monday, SpiceJet has announced that it will operate eight new flights to Chittagong and Dhaka in Bangladesh. SpiceJet will operate these flights under India’s air bubble agreement with Bangladesh.

India started the scheduled domestic passenger flights on May 25 after a gap of two months due to the coronavirus pandemic. As domestic flights resumed, the Ministry of Civil Aviation made it mandatory for air travelers to do a web check-in view of Covid-19.
