After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Changi Airport in Singapore has recently relaunched its free city tour for transit and transfer passengers.

The initiative is expected to increase passenger traffic at the airport, which is estimated to be around 30% of total traffic. The free tour has been organised by the Changi Airport Group (CAG), Singapore Airlines (SIA), and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

“The Free Singapore Tour (FST) returns on 3 April after a two-year hiatus! Transit and transfer passengers with a layover period of between 5.5 and 24 hours are eligible to join the FST,” said Changi Airport in a Tweet.

Existing tours, such as the City Sights Tour, the Jewel Tour, and the Heritage Tour, have been updated with new points of interest.

The tours last about 2.5 hours and are available every day. In addition, the Changi Precinct Tour, which will take passengers on an exploration of the Eastern region surrounding Singapore Changi Airport, will be introduced.

Transfer and transit passengers with a layover of at least 5.5 hours but less than 24 hours are eligible for the free tour. Passengers must have a valid Singapore entry visa to participate in the tours.

Sustainability Features

The itinerary will highlight sustainability features at several locations, giving participants an overview of Singapore’s sustainability efforts.

This includes the Eco Community Garden on the roof of ‘Our Tampines Hub,’ environmental sustainability initiatives at Gardens by the Bay (as part of the City Sights Tour), and Jewel (as part of the Jewel Tour).

Lim Ching Kiat, Executive Vice President of Air Hub & Cargo Development at CAG, stated that they are delighted to bring back the free tour with the resumption of travel. He added that the initiative will encourage travellers to explore more within the airport.

In conclusion, the reintroduction of the free city tour is a significant step forward for Changi Airport, which strives to provide its passengers with an unforgettable experience. Singapore’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and providing visitors with a glimpse of its sustainability efforts is also reflected in this initiative.

The availability of advanced booking on the airport’s website is expected to make it easier for passengers to participate in the tours, improving their overall travel experience.
