Singapore Airlines, Scoot To Expand VTL Network In India, 26 Other Countries

In the coming weeks, Singapore Airlines and its low-cost carrier Scoot will expand their vaccinated travel lane (VTL) network to connect 66 locations in 27 countries including India.

SIA Group, the parent company of Singapore Airlines said on Tuesday (Mar 15) that “New VTL services will be added progressively to selected cities in Southeast Asia and India, as well as Athens, from Mar 16, 2022”

In addition, SIA announced that for the majority of the destinations, all non-vaccinated travel lane flights will be changed to VTL flights. According to the same, Singapore Airlines and Scoot have previously stated that all flights from India to Singapore will be converted to vaccinated travel lane (VTL) services.

This means travellers from eight cities across India will now be able to travel to Singapore without any quarantine.

VTL Flights From 8 Indian Cities

Singapore Airlines, the flag carrier airline of Singapore in a statement said, “While existing daily VTL flights will continue to operate from Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai, all of SIA India flights that arrive in Singapore from March 16, 2022, will progressively operate as VTL services”

This also includes Singapore Airlines flights from Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, and Kolkata.

Moreover, SIA’s low-cost subsidiary Scoot will convert non-VTL routes from Amritsar, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Tiruchirappalli, and Visakhapatnam to VTL services over time.

Singapore removed cap on flights

“On February 16, 2022, Singapore declared that it would eliminate the 50% cap and gradually boost the VTL quota for daily arrivals from 5,000 to 15,000 by March 4, 2022,” SIA Group stated.

Scoot announced flights to six Indian cities in December 2021: Amritsar, Tiruchirappalli, Hyderabad Coimbatore, Trivandrum, and Visakhapatnam, the latter three of which were new connection points. The airline began flying these flights on December 28 as part of the ongoing air bubble travel arrangement in accordance with the Singaporean government’s COVID-19 regulations.

Singapore Airlines was flying to 63 destinations as of the end of February 2022, with Scoot taking 37.
