According to an official, the Sikkim Police Department has decided to stop issuing permits to tourists to visit Tsomgo Lake and Nathu-la Pass as of Friday because the Himalayan state has been receiving continuous snowfall since December 27.

The existing tourist permits would also be revoked, according to the official.

Sikkim has been experiencing heavy snowfall since December 27, closing the road to the state’s most popular tourist destinations, Tsomgo Lake and Nathu-la, he said.

Permits for North Sikkim district tourist hotspots Lachen, Lachung, Gurudongmar Lake, and Yumthang are still being issued, according to the official, who added that tourist permits would be suspended if heavy snowfall blocked the roads to the North Sikkim tourist destinations.
