Flight services at Pakyong airport in Sikkim resumed on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, after a SpiceJet plane took off for Delhi, according to officials.

The airport’s flight services were suspended in October 2022 due to operational difficulties, causing inconvenience to the state’s residents and negatively impacting the tourism industry.

SpiceJet’s flight landed at Pakyong airport with 12 passengers and departed for Delhi with 43 passengers. The airport will commence regular flight services on March 26, 2023, with daily flights to Delhi, officials said.

The airport, which is located 26.8 kilometres from the state capital of Gangtok, offers an alternative to the busy Bagdogra airport in West Bengal’s Siliguri, which is 123 kilometres away from Gangtok.

Tourism industry stakeholders and the public alike have welcomed the resumption of flight services at Pakyong airport, as it is expected to boost tourism in Sikkim and provide convenient travel options for the state’s residents.
