Qatar, a country in Western Asia that will host the FIFA World Cup this year said that the Doha International Airport (DIA), which has been closed for the longest time, will reopen starting next week.

The decision to reopen Doha International Airport comes as Qatar prepares to welcome over a million visitors during the FIFA World Cup 2022. The move is expected to relieve congestion at Hamad International Airport, Doha which is currently the sole international airport in Qatar.

It should be noted that up until the opening of Hamad International Airport on May 27, 2014, Doha International Airport served as Qatar’s primary commercial international airport.

Despite the fact that all regularly scheduled commercial traffic has ceased, the Qatar Emiri Air Force, Qatar Amiri Flight, Rizon Jet, Gulf Helicopters, and Qatar Aeronautical College continue to use the airport site and the current runway.
