On Friday, November 11 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, doubling the passenger-handling capacity and number of check-in and immigration counters.

Terminal 2 will be built at a cost of around Rs 5,000 crore and will be able to handle around 5-6 crore passengers annually, up from the current capacity of 2.5 crores.

The newly build Terminal 2 is a tribute to Bengaluru’s Garden City, and the passenger experience is meant to be a “walk in the garden.”

Passengers will travel through over 10,000 square metres of green walls, hanging gardens, and outdoor gardens built in India with indigenous technology.

This airport has already set an example for sustainability by utilising 100% renewable energy across the campus. Sustainability principles were woven into the design of Terminal 2.

PM Modi will also inaugurate a statue of Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru, on the airport grounds as part of his visit. The statue is 108 feet tall and made entirely of bronze.
