The Ministry of External Affairs has announced a temporary shutdown of the Passport Seva portal for maintenance activities. The online platform will be unavailable for four days, from Thursday, August 29, 2024, 8:00 PM IST, to Monday, September 2, 2024, 6:00 AM IST.

No New Appointments

During this period, no new passport appointments can be scheduled. However, appointments already booked for August 30, 2024, will be rescheduled, and applicants will be informed accordingly.

The maintenance shutdown will also affect the operations of all MEA, RPO, BOI, ISP, DoP, and Police Authorities linked to the system.

“Passport Seva portal will be down for technical maintenance from 29th August 2024, Thursday 20:00 hrs IST to 2nd September, Monday 06:00 hrs IST. The system will not be available during this period for citizens and all MEA/RPO/BOI/ISP/DoP/Police Authorities. The already booked appointments for 30th August 2024 will be suitably rescheduled and informed to applicants,” said the External Affairs in a statement.

To minimize inconvenience, the ministry has implemented contingency plans to manage the temporary shutdown. The public is assured that every effort is being made to reduce any disruption and maintain essential services during the maintenance period.

Passport Seva Portal Services

The Passport Seva portal is used to book appointments at passport offices across India for new passport applications or renewals. Applicants need to appear in person at the appointed time, submit necessary documents, and undergo police verification.

In-person Visit Required: Applicants must visit the passport office on their scheduled appointment date with all necessary documents for verification.

Police Verification: A police verification process is mandatory for all applications.

Passport Delivery: Passports are delivered to the applicant’s registered address. The delivery time depends on the chosen mode:

  • Regular Mode: Passport is delivered within 30-45 working days.
  • Tatkaal Mode: The passport is delivered within a few days, depending on the urgency.

The Ministry encourages applicants to check the portal for updates after the maintenance period and reschedule their appointments if necessary.
