Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), one of the world’s busiest single runway airports, broke its own single-day record with a passenger movement of 1,30,374 on September 17, 2022, the highest since the pandemic.
On September 17, nearly 95,080 passengers passed through Terminal 2 (T2), while 35,294 passed through Terminal 1 (T1), with 839 total flight movements.
On domestic routes, IndiGo, Vistara, and Go First carried the most passengers.
- IndiGo, Air India, and Emirates were among the top three international carriers.
- The top three domestic destinations were Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennai, while Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Singapore remained the top three international routes with the most air traffic.
According to Mumbai International Airport, the increase in traffic is due to newer destinations, increased flight movements, and increased airline capacity at CSMIA.
Adding to the weekend rush, on September 18, 2022, CSMIA saw over 1.3 lakh passengers, with approximately 98,000+ pax travelling domestically and around 32,000 pax travelling on international routes.
Domestic traffic increased by 5% to 1.02 crore in August 2022, according to rating agency Investment Information and Credit Rating Agency of India Limited (ICRA), indicating that the aviation industry is on the mend with normalcy in flight operations.
