Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo have officially launched a codeshare partnership to enhance travel connectivity between key hubs in Malaysia and India.

This strategic collaboration, first initiated by a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2024, aims to improve travel options and streamline the passenger experience for travellers in both countries.

Expanded Connectivity for Malaysia Airlines Passengers

Through this codeshare partnership, Malaysia Airlines will now offer its customers access to an extended network of domestic destinations in India. The airline’s “MH” flight code will be applied to flights headed to seven additional cities in India:

  • Kolkata
  • Varanasi
  • Patna
  • Tiruchirappalli
  • Goa
  • Bhubaneswar
  • Visakhapatnam

These new routes will complement Malaysia Airlines’ existing flights to major Indian cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. This expansion allows travellers to explore a wider range of destinations across India, adding more flexibility to their travel plans.

More Travel Options for IndiGo Passengers

Passengers will benefit from this partnership as well, with the airline applying its ‘6E’ flight code to Malaysia Airlines’ domestic routes departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1. IndiGo passengers will now have convenient access to Malaysia’s top travel destinations, including:

  • Penang
  • Langkawi
  • Johor Bahru
  • Kota Kinabalu
  • Kuching

This new connectivity offers travellers the chance to explore Malaysia’s diverse landscapes, rich culture, and famous tourist attractions with ease.

Promoting Tourism and Visa-Free Travel

The codeshare partnership is expected to promote tourism growth by leveraging visa-free travel agreements between India and Malaysia. With seamless travel options and improved connectivity, both airlines aim to attract more tourists and business travellers, boosting economic growth in both regions.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward enhancing the travel experience for passengers, with both Malaysia Airlines and IndiGo committed to offering smooth, convenient, and hassle-free travel services.

Similarly, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of Malaysia Aviation Group, emphasized the benefits for both nations: “This partnership allows Malaysia Airlines customers to experience India’s rich cultural and economic offerings while welcoming IndiGo passengers to experience our Malaysian hospitality.”

Conclusion

As this strategic codeshare partnership takes flight, travellers can look forward to expanded travel options, enhanced convenience, and a greater opportunity to explore the vibrant cultures of India and Malaysia.
