On Wednesday, Sept. 30, Maharashtra’s state minister Aaditya Thackeray said that the state government is seriously planning to resume all normal local train services in Mumbai by October 15.
However, the news was stated by Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’.
According to the Saamana, Thackeray said that govt. is efforting to bring the state’s economy back on track, hence, resumption of suburban train services for common citizens is being considered.
He also said that to reduce road traffic, a proposal is being considered to keep offices and commercial facilities running for 24 hours.
It is difficult to move office hours as there are different types of offices and commercial facilities in Mumbai, the minister said.
He said that the government was in talks with offices, institutions and companies about working hours.
The government is also in talks with the railways to increase the frequency of these train connections, the minister said.
Currently, to curb the spread of Covid-19, local trains are being run only for essential services staff, state and central government staff, employees of nationalized and private banks, etc.
“The government is seriously considering starting normal train services for citizens by October 15. The decision will be taken after ensuring all COVID-19 related safety protocols are followed,” Thackeray said.
