List of Countries That Have Suspended Flights From India: Check Details

As the second wave of Coronavirus hits the whole country very badly, many countries had announced a Travel Ban/Flight Suspension/Travel Restrictions from travelers from India.

Till now a total of 28 countries have suspended flights or puts restrictions on Indian travelers; Here is a list of countries that have issued orders to ban travel to and from India.

1. Australia

 Australia on Thursday announced a temporary reduction to the number of incoming flights from India. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said chartered and direct flights from India would soon be cut by 30 percent and departures to India would be limited.

2. Bangladesh

In view of the huge surge in cases of COVID-19 in India, Bangladesh on Sunday has suspended the entry of people from India through the land route for two weeks starting from 26 April. It must be noted that International flights including flights between India and Bangladesh are already suspended since April 14.

Dr. A K Abdul Momen, the Foreign Minister of Bangladesh told the media that the passenger travel is being suspended for the time being but trade will continue.

3. Belgium

Belgium announced ban on travelers from India, Brazil and South Africa -major countries hit by fast-spreading deadly coronavirus variants.

“Passenger travel by air, train, boat, and bus, including transit traffic, from India, Brazil and South Africa to Belgium will be banned,” AFP reported that Prime Minister Alexander de Croo announced in a statement.

4. Cambodia

Cambodia also announced a similar travel restrictions, effective from Thursday, to also cover people who have been to India as far back as three weeks. The country have seen big jumps in case numbers in recent weeks.

5. Canada

Canada Transportation Minister Omar Alghabra on Thursday suspends all passenger flights from India for 30 days. “Suspending flights from India and Pakistan to Canada for 30 days will help manage the elevated risk of imported cases of COVID-19 and variants of concern into Canada during a time of increasing pressure on our health care system.” Omar Alghabra said in a tweet.

6. Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has also added India to its list of countries that pose a great risk of the spread of the new variant of the deadly virus.

7. France

France has imposed restrictions on flights from five countries which include India, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and South Africa. Moreover, passengers traveling to France from the restricted countries will have to undergo a mandatory antigen test on their arrival apart from a pre-boarding RT-PCR test.

8. Germany

Germany’s Health Minister Jens Spahn said that starting from Monday (27th April) Germany will ban all travelers arriving from India, only German citizens will be allowed to enter the country.

However, Lufthansa and Air India who operate flights between two countries say they are not suspending flights between India and Germany.

9. Hong Kong

Last week the Hong Kong govt. has suspended all flights from India, Pakistan, and the Philippines for two weeks starting from 20th April 2021. The decision comes after the authorities found a total of 50 passengers of two Vistara flights this month were tested positive for Covid-19 on arrival.

10. Iran

Iran on Saturday suspends all commercial flights from India for an indefinite period with immediate effect. Mohammad Hassan Zibakhsh, spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization noted there are no routine flights between Iran and India and “flights are operated occasionally.”

Zibakhsh further added that flights to and from 41 countries already were prohibited in Iran, while those who want to fly to other countries listed as high risk are required to have a coronavirus test in Iran. Travelers over 8 years old need to submit a negative PCR test within 96 hours of departure and do another test on arrival.

11. Italy

Italy has also joined other countries by imposing travel restrictions on India. Roberto Speranza, the Health Minister of Italy on Sunday in a tweet said that he had signed an order barring foreign travelers who have been in India in the past 14 days from entering the country.

However, Italian residents will be allowed to return from India with a negative test result at their departure and one at their arrival and then have to go into quarantine, the minister further added.

12. Kuwait

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Kuwait on Saturday announced the suspension of all commercial flights coming from India, effective April 24 and until further notice.

“All passengers arriving from the Republic of India are not allowed to enter the country, either arriving directly or via another country unless they have resided outside the Republic of India at least (14) days prior to arrival to the state of Kuwait,” said DGCA Kuwait in a circular.

13. Malawi

Malawi’s Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has also announced a ban on travellers from India with an aim to guard the country against the threat of the coronavirus’ new variant.

14. Malaysia

The Transport Ministry of Malaysia announced that it will halt the entry of Indian nationals and also suspending all flights between India and Maldives till further notice. The suspension also includes all flights to/from India under the Vande Bharat Mission.

15. Maldives

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives on Sunday has imposed a temporary ban on Indian tourists from checking in to hotels and guesthouses in residential Maldivian islands. The new restrictions take effect on Tuesday, April 27.

“With effect from 27 April, @HPA_mv suspends tourists traveling from #India to #Maldives from staying at tourist facilities in inhabited islands. We thank you for the support in our endeavor to make tourism safest possible with minimum inconvenience.” Ministry of Tourism said in a Tweet.

16. Nepal

The Indian Embassy in Nepal issues an advisory and ask all Indian nationals to avoid travel to Nepal for the purposes of onward journeys to third countries.

“The arrival of foreigners intending to travel to third countries via Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and using TIA as transit airport will be restricted from 28 April 2021 midnight till the next notice”. However, “… the ongoing services provided to travelers arriving in Nepal as a final destination and departing from Nepal will be continued as usual”.

17. Netherlands

Netherlands announced the it will suspend all flights from India till 1st May. “A flight ban will take effect for passenger flights from India at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 26… The flight ban will be in place until at least 00:01 a.m. on May 1,” Sputnik quoted Dutch Aviation Ministry’s statement.

18. New Zealand

The New Zealand govt on April 08 temporarily bans entry for all travelers from India for two weeks, this also including its own citizens. “We are temporarily suspending entry into New Zealand for travelers from India,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said in a news conference in Auckland.

The suspension will start from 1600 local time on April 11 and will be in place until April 28. During this time the government will look at risk management measures to resume travel.

19. Oman

The Supreme Committee of Oman in a meeting on Wednesday (21st April) expanding the ban on entry to the Sultanate to cover travelers from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh and passengers arriving from any other country if they passed by any of the three countries over the past 14 days.

20. Pakistan

Pakistan, the neighboring country of India has also imposed a ban on passengers arriving from India for two weeks starting from 19th April 2021.

21. Philippines

The Philippines will ban travelers coming from India to prevent the spread of a new variant blamed for a huge surge in cases in the South Asian nation.

Travelers coming from India or those with travel history to that country within the last 14 days before arrival will be banned from entering the Philippines from April 29 to May 14.

22. Saudi Arabia

The country has planning to resume international flights operating from 17th May but earlier this week national carrier of Saudi Arabia in a reply to a tweet said that the decision to resume international flights from May 17 does not apply to 20 countries Saudi Arabia imposed a travel ban on in early February.

“The suspension of all international flights will be lifted starting from 1 a.m. on Monday, May 17. But this won’t be applicable to countries where the relevant official committee decided to suspend travel to or form due to the outbreak of coronavirus,” Saudia said in a statement.

23. Seychelles

Seychelles has issued new travel measures for visitors from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. As per the latest rules only vaccinated visitors from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh who have completed two weeks after their second dose are permitted to travel to and enter Seychelles.

24. Singapore

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has announced restrictions on passengers traveling to Singapore from India.

With effect from 23 April 2021, 2359 hours, until further notice, all inbound travelers, except Singapore Citizens (SCs) or Singapore Permanent Residents (SPRs), with recent travel history (including transit) to India within the last 14 days before departure for Singapore, will not be allowed entry into or transfer/transit through Singapore. This will also apply to all those who had obtained prior approval for entry into Singapore.

25. Spain

Due to the devastating outbreak of the COVID-19 in the South Asian country, the Spain govt. has announced that it will imposes a Ten-Day quarantine for all passengers arriving from India.

26. Thailand

Thailand has suspended issuing travel documents from India over concerns of imported coronavirus cases. The Thai embassy in New Delhi said in a statement that certificates of entry for non-Thai nationals travelling from India will be suspended until further notice.

27. United Arab Emirates (UAE)

The United Arab Emirate (UAE) government on Thursday extends the suspension of flights from India till 14th May 2021. Now, all the passengers who have transited through India in the last 14 days are also not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE.

Earlier the country has suspended all flights from India for 10 days starting from 11.59 pm on Saturday, April 24.

However, UAE citizens, diplomatic delegations, official delegations, and flights of businessmen are the categories that are exempted from this restriction.

28. United Kingdom (UK)

The Health Secretary of UK Matt Hancock said starting from 0300 GMT on 23rd April, Friday, India was being added to Britain’s ‘Red List’ of countries, banning all arrivals from India except for the UK or Irish nationals.

National of British, Irish, and third-country only with residence rights (including long-term visa holders) will be allowed to enter the United Kingdom but will be required to quarantine for ten days in a government-approved hotel.
