Busy Air Corridor
The air corridor between the UAE and India is among the busiest in the world, driven by the substantial Indian expatriate community in the UAE, which numbers around 3.7 million.
This community forms the largest group of foreign workers in the UAE, leading to a high demand for flights between the two countries.
Seasonal Fare Increases
Airfares on this popular route often surge during peak travel periods, such as the summer holidays and New Year, sometimes more than doubling in price.
Industry experts have urged both governments to increase seat capacity to better meet the growing demand. Additionally, Dubai remains a popular tourist destination for Indian travellers year-round.
High Traffic Volumes
According to aviation consultancy OAG, the India-UAE air route was the 9th busiest in the world by seat capacity in July 2024, with a total of 2.192 million seats.
Abu Dhabi Airports’ data from the first quarter of 2024 highlights the popularity of this corridor, with Mumbai, Kochi, and Delhi ranking as the second, third, and fourth busiest destinations, respectively, with passenger numbers reaching 240,681, 206,139, and 203,395.
Conclusion
IndiGo’s new routes and competitive pricing are expected to provide much-needed relief to travellers, making air travel between the UAE and India more accessible and affordable. As demand continues to rise, the airline’s expansion could play a crucial role in meeting the needs of the large Indian community in the UAE.
