IndiGo Announced Flights Between Deoghar And Kolkata From July 12

IndiGo, an Indian low-cost carrier and the largest airline in India in terms of passengers carried and fleet size, has announced flights to/from ‘Deoghar’ as its 74th domestic and 99th overall destination.

The airline will begin nonstop flights between Kolkata and Deoghar on July 12, 2022. These new connections will improve connectivity amongst the country’s eastern states.

The flights would improve connection in the region, especially with the Shravani Mela, which begins next week and attracts over 2.5 million people each year.

The DGCA of India gave the newly-built airport in Jharkhand an aerodrome license on June 29, allowing it to accommodate narrow-body aircraft like as the A321 and B737.

The license has been upgraded from 3C to 4C, allowing commercial operations with aircraft up to the size of an Airbus 321, Boeing 737, or similar. A 3C license permits an airport to handle only regional aircraft such as the ATR-72. It will also make it easier for pilgrims to reach Baidyanath Dhaam.

Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer of IndiGo Sanjay Kumar said;

“These new flights will enhance connectivity and significantly reduce transit time between Kolkata and Deoghar, from 7.5 hours to less than 1.25 hours. The increased access to Deoghar — home to Baba Baidyanath Temple, Trikuta Parvata, Rama Krishna Mission Vidyapith, and Naulakha Mandir — will also boost religious tourism in the region.”

With its fleet of 280+ aircraft, IndiGo is currently operating over 1600 daily flights and connecting 74 domestic destinations and 25 international destinations.

Deoghar Airport

Deoghar Airport would be the state’s second airport, following Ranchi. The terminal building’s architecture is influenced by the construction of Baba Baidyanath Temple, which is spread across 650 acres. The terminal building features paintings of tribal art, handicrafts, and local tourism attractions.
